280 species of birds have been recorded in the Myall Lakes National
Park equal to the number recorded at Kakadu.
Scuba Diving
Hawks Nest Dive Centre (Ph 49970442) Some of the finest
shore and boat diving in NSW is of the coast of Hawks Nest playing
host to a great variety of tropical and temperate water marine
life. The dive sites are less than 40 minutes boat ride away and
include spectacular caves, open water wrecks nudibranchs, dolphins,
whales and if you so desire grey nurse sharks.

Dolphin Watch
Simba 11 Cruises (Ph 4997 1084) offers twice daily dolphin watch
cruises including free boom net rides. There is a 99% chance of seeing
dolphins on one of these cruises. Approximately 80 bottlenose dolphins
permanently reside in Port Stephens with the same number again visiting
the port at any one time.
Koala Spotting
Fifteen to thirty koalas live within the vicinity of Hawks Nest shopping
centre and in adjacent bushland.
Fishing
The area is a fisherman’s haven. Enjoy the beauty and solitude
of 40 kms of beach while beach fishing or drop a line off a river wharf.
Deep sea and reef fishing is also an option or simply hire a “tinnie”
from the Tea Gardens Boatshed & Marine (Ph 4997 0307).

Bush Walking
There are many kilometres of walking trails from open beaches
to rainforest – covered Mungo Brush, towering Yacaaba Headland
and the Sahara like sand dunes north of Bennett’s Beach.
Myall River
Cruise the tranquil Myall river pass ghosts of ships, varieties
of water birds such as royal spoonbill, ibis, sea eagles, grebes
and sometimes Jabiru.

Hawks Nest Golf Club is one of the finest 18 hole courses on the north
coast.
Bike Hire
The surrounds of Hawks Nest are cycle friendly. It is a great way to
